"The Importance of Being Earnest" was Wilde's final and most lasting play, considered by many to be a masterpiece of modern comedy. Filled with wit and wisdom, "Earnest" tells the tale of Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, young men who bend the truth in order to add a dash of excitement to their lives. Worthing has invented an imaginary brother, Earnest, whom he uses as an excuse to escape from his dull home in the country and frolic in town. Moncrieff uses his imaginary friend, Bunbury, as a convenient and frequent reason to take adventures in the country. However, their deceptions eventually cross paths, resulting in a series of crises that threaten to spoil their romantic pursuits.
